surprise!
needless to say I surprised the entire staff today (minus the executive director who hired me) when I showed up for the first day of my internship. But they welcomed me with open arms, gave me a little area that puts a face up at the front of the office, and are going to incorporate me into everything they do and show me the ropes during the rest of this week. I am excited to get involved with everything and hopefully learn a lot.Now I am going to teach 3 hrs of piano (Tuesday are my busy days).
…more to come.

childhood food memories
While watching the Spain episode of Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations tonight (blog here), he asked the question, what are some of your memories from childhood when it comes to food? Of course the chef he was asking said something to extent of “roasted lamb over an open fire out in the country,” what I came up with isn’t quite as rustic. I racked my brain to a time when I lived in the San Fran Bay area in the late 80s. Perhaps I am still too young, but I realized that what I thought of wasn’t so much as flavors as it was colors. Specifically, Fruit loops when there were only 3 colors (red, orange, yellow). Also, the annual gingerbread house we would have shipped to us every Christmas from our friends in Germany. I would always eat the strawberry candies from the roof (which I was reunited with 2 years ago during my stint in Europe), also the special gingerbread bakery cookies that would accompany them. I remember drinking Shirley Temples at the Claremont Hotel at Sunday brunch. The last thing I can think of is going to the renaissance fair and eating long sticks of cinnamon/sugar churos (sp?), warm, light and a little crispy. Maybe not much has changed in the past 20 years, I still go home for dinner every night, and my mom’s cooking hasn’t really changed in that time. So I am still eating the same things I did when I was growing up (perhaps I am still growing up).

four days
the time I have had off between my last job which ended thursday, and the new one I begin tomorrow. It has seemed like a long time, I could have even gone on a trip. But I spent the long Labor day weekend at home, relaxing, eating some good food, seeing some friends and family, catching up on sleep, cleaning, and preparing for what is to come. I look forward to the busy week, a new routine, and cooler rainy weather. Bring it on.

Stay out of the street!!! We don’t do that here!
- Me today yelling out of my car window downtown. I was going straight on a green light when 2 people started to walk out across the street in the cross walk (to which I politely slowed down and they stopped and saw me), when I realized it was a friend from college home for a visit, so I thought I would pseudo verbally abuse them from the driver’s window. I promptly parallel parked and bolted out of the car where we reminisced for several minutes with our boyfriends. It’s funny how are pathes cross sometimes, she is en route from DC to Cambodia, I am en route to…well staying here but enjoying myself and gaining my footing. And I have to say I am excited for the fall and perhaps starting up my own travels again.
until then, please observe the cross walk signs.

waiting waiting
I like my subject lines to be repetitive. On that note, I am waiting for my bf and two friends to arrive in Columbia! I threw a huge fit over not being able to participate in the lake fun this weekend, so they are going to come up and visit me for a while this afternoon. I just want to catch up with people I don’t get to see very often, that’s all I ask for really. A few hours filled with laughter and stories and some good pizza from downtown.

is it bad that I would start to cry uncontrollably while watching the beginning part of the Sound of Music when it was on TV yesterday? maybe I just relate a little too much to Maria sometimes, or perhaps a nostalgia for Austria…today is a better day. i have confidence in confidence alone.

Curse you spiced yogi tea!!!!
I thought, why not accompany my viewing of the Darjeeling Limited with a nice cup of spiced tea with orange and honey???
For some reason I have a wretched case of the hiccups! Every time I take a sip my chest goes into a spasm. I can’t seem to shake them now.
*sigh……HICCUPPPPP….*

You have me, Mr. Draper.
Just finished watching the last of season 1, and even I was moved at this slide show….despite my mom and dog passed out in the background….
The season ends on such an enigmatic note. Can’t wait for the new episode on Sunday!

juice juice
So I was going to try to do a juice fast/cleanse today. I had a lovely fresh combo from Main Squeeze, the Ring of Fire with orange, apple, beet, and ginger. Around 1230 though, I was fastly fading away (I know, quite the point though?), so I succumbed to a healthy snack of pure protein granola, a mashed up banana, and a little splash of milk. Now I am enjoying some hot tea while my piano is being tuned.
